Job Title: Retail Store Assistant Manager 

 

Reports To: The Retail Store Assistant Manager will report to the Retail Store Manager at present store. This may include multiple managers if working in multiple locations.

 

Job Overview

The Retail Store Assistant Manager is responsible for customer service and coordinating store operations along with the Retail Manager. A Retail Store Assistant Manager also performs the duties of the Retail Keyholders: works in a sales position that regularly interacts with customers, packages products and keeps our stores clean and presentable. This position is the leader on duty when the Store Manager is unavailable, ensuring the store operates smoothly, employees understand their responsibilities, customers receive excellent service, and issues are addressed appropriately. They cultivate a friendly atmosphere, representing our business to customers and contributing to the company sales goals of Wilbur’s of Maine Chocolate Confections.

This is regularly a full-time position. This position provides coverage for retail shifts including availability for opening and closing, and busy times including weekends and around holidays. Seasonally and at holidays retail employees may be expected to maximize work hours. Overtime hours are only considered approved if advanced written approval from the Store Manager is obtained.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assist with hiring and training staff in coordination with the Store Manager and the Retail Coordinator.
  • Motivate staff members during busy shifts.
  • Assist with coaching retail staff regarding expectations of excellence and how to achieve these goals. Provide constructive and patient feedback to employees regarding work performance and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure that all products are undamaged along all stages of receipt continuing into the retail area through the point of sale.
  • Perform retail duties of retail assistants and keyholders: Be a leader in modeling these tasks to all retail staff: Prepare and ring up purchases. Greet and engage customers. Open and close the store.
  • Ensure that the store is kept clean and organized. Communicate necessary repairs to Store Manager.
  • Support Store Manager to create business strategies to attract new customers, expand store traffic, and enhance profitability. Develop and arrange promotional material, signs and in-store displays.
  • Assist Store Manager to coordinate with other departments as needed for production, packaging and costing coordination. Coordinate needed side work with other areas. Monitor and communicate about inventory.
  • Respond to customer complaints and concerns in a professional manner.
  • Support Store Manager to ensure store compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Communicate and trouble shoot with the Store Managers regularly.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; minimum 9th-grade reading level.
  • Several years of retail experience with strong customer service and business knowledge.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise, coach, and provide effective feedback.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Dependable, punctual, and committed to regular attendance.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including opening, closing, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong organizational, task management, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, creativity, and ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math and financial skills with proficiency in computers and standard office equipment.
  • Professional, courteous, and customer-focused, with reliable transportation and a commitment to maintaining a positive, professional appearance.

Physical demands 

  • Must be able to stand for several hours while performing lifting, bending, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to use the stairs while carrying objects.
  • Moving Displays and fixtures
  • Must be able to operate a computer terminal/cash register with ease.
  • Speak and hear with ease of communication.

Pay Range: $18-19
